From DIY Disaster to Fresh Perfection: Our Full Interior Paint Transformation in Killeen, Texas

Homeowners often dive into DIY painting projects with great enthusiasm, but sometimes the results don't quite match the vision. In this recent job in Killeen, Texas, our customer had bravely tackled her 1,500-square-foot home herself. She'd used about a gallon of paint and managed to cover three-quarters of the living room—impressive effort! Unfortunately, the finish was blotchy with uneven coverage, the ceiling had been painted in satin (which shows every roller mark and imperfection) instead of flat, and there were paint splatters and drips on counters, trim, and other non-paint surfaces. It was a classic case of a good start turning into a bigger challenge.

We stepped in to turn things around and deliver the smooth, professional results she deserved.

The Scope of Work

We completed the full interior paint job in just four days, including:

  • All walls

  • Trim and baseboards

  • Ceilings

  • Doors

The customer selected Sherwin-Williams paint, and we matched a beautiful custom color called Snowbound (originally from Lowe's)—a soft, warm off-white with subtle taupe undertones that feels bright and timeless without being stark. It paired perfectly with her new flooring, creating a clean, cohesive look throughout the home.

Since new flooring had recently been installed but the crew hadn't added quarter round trim, we handled that as an add-on. We installed quarter round throughout the entire house to neatly cover the gaps between the new flooring and the existing baseboards.

We also noticed several noticeable gaps where the top of the baseboards met the walls, so we applied thorough caulking to fill and smooth those transitions for a seamless, polished appearance.

In the bathrooms, we removed all the towel bars, towel rings, toilet paper holders, and similar hardware. This left multiple holes in the walls, which we carefully patched, sanded smooth, and painted over.

Before painting, we did detailed prep work: correcting the blotchy areas from the DIY attempt, switching the ceiling to proper flat paint, and cleaning up all the overspray and drips.

The result was crisp, even coverage with sharp, clean lines everywhere.

Going Above and Beyond

We always look for one or two extra ways to exceed expectations on every job. For this customer, we focused on these two:

  1. One of the utility room doors had loose wood panels that were separating. We glued them securely back in place, added nails for reinforcement, and repainted the entire door. It came out looking brand new—no more wobbly or damaged panels.

  2. The old ceiling air registers throughout the house were rusted and dated. We assisted the customer in installing brand-new ones in every room, giving the ceilings a fresh, updated finish that complemented the new paint perfectly.

The Results

The total cost for the complete interior paint job—including the quarter round installation, caulking, patching, door repair, and help with the new air registers—was $6,800.

The homeowner went from a half-finished, blotchy space with visible mistakes to a bright, cohesive, move-in-ready home. She was especially thrilled with the repaired door and the fresh registers, saying it felt like an entirely new house.
